Rules and how the figures are computed
A day holds any number of shifts — clocking out and back in adds one, it never replaces the last. Paid = the sum of every shift's (out − in − its own lunch), target exactly 8h00m for the day · the unpaid gap between shifts is not a meal break, so only a punched lunch start/end counts toward the 30m minimum · that break must begin within 5 hours of the day's first clock-in (California) · periods run bi-weekly Mon→Sun, payday = end + 5 days. Clock-out projections count hours already banked in earlier shifts and assume your planned lunch (30m) until a real one is punched. Overtime can be given a per-day target; the timer counts up from the 8h mark and down to that target, and flags going past it. Gross prices paid-equivalent hours (regular + OT 1.5× + double-time 2×) at the hourly wage stored for that day's own pay period, so a raise never re-values older periods. PTO and holiday days are paid for a set number of hours (8 by default, editable) at straight time; they count toward paid hours and pay but never toward the exact-8h check or overtime. Holidays & paid events is a per-year calendar, pre-filled with the observed US federal holidays (remove any your firm skips; the removal sticks): each entry lands in its pay period on its own, paid or unpaid as you mark it. Punching in on one of those days turns it into a normal work day (the calendar entry stays for next year's reference). Take-home is an estimate of the paycheck after withholding: federal income tax (2026 tables), Social Security and Medicare, and the chosen state's income tax and disability insurance (California by default, 2025 FTB tables plus 1.3% SDI), computed with the annualized percentage method on a full-time bi-weekly check at that period's wage. Copy one real check's tax lines under Customize › Taxes and each line is corrected to match it, with its other deductions carried per check. Local taxes and credits are not modeled; it is not payroll advice. Saved to your account; Customize › Data exports everything as one JSON file and imports it back (merge or replace) into any Punch Card.
